Explosive Eighteen Review

Explosive Eighteen (Stephanie Plum, #18)Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was a Christmas present (thanks again, Kim V), and I liked it!

It’s cute, funny, a fast read.

But I’m in agreement with some of my fellow book club members–I would like to see Stephanie grow, make some decisions (especially about her love life) that find her moving ahead a little. Our girl seems kind of stuck in the same old rut, in her personal and professional lives.

When I think of Stephanie’s character, I’m reminded of the times in my life when I’ve been stuck, afraid to move forward, mired in indecision, confusion, and frustration. For me, something has usually happened to bitch slap me out of my funk (a broken heart, health or financial crisis), so that I finally get off the fence and do something with my life instead of just thinking about it!

So I’m hoping Janet E. gives Stephanie a crisis, something, to wake her up and get her out of this rut.

Happy New Year

2012?

It can’t be!

Life has been busy, but really good these days, with work, the holidays, family, and just taking time out to be.

Christmas was fun, as it always is, surrounded by my extended family.

Best quote from Christmas Eve:

Mom to five year-old B: “B, is Justin Bieber real?”

B: “He’s real, but I wish he wasn’t.”

Ha!

So 2012 is right around the corner, and I wish each and every one of you a rich year, filled with life, love and happiness.

See you next year.

Favorite quote of the week:

“Difficult times have helped me to understand better than before, how infinitely rich and beautiful life is in every way, and that so many things that one goes worrying about are of no importance whatsoever…” Isak Dinesen

Fool Moon Book Review

Fool Moon (The Dresden Files #2)Fool Moon by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Harry Dresden is chasing wolves, helping his cop friend Murphy solve a string of icky murders. Harry’s up to his old tricks, trying to protect Murphy by lying to her. Harry’s a slow learner when it comes to strong women; Murphy does not need anyone’s protection. The push-pull between these two characters is kind of fun. They like each other, a lot, but drive each other crazy. A match made in heaven.

I found the final battle between Harry and the wolves drawn out a bit too much; I felt that Butcher could have wrapped things up quicker.

But I enjoy this series, and will start looking for book three very soon.

Storm Front Review

Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1)Storm Front by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Vampires, demons, werewolves, and a tough female cop make up the series my family describes as “Harry Potter for adults.”

Storm Front is the first book in the Dresden Files series about wizard/private investigator Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Dresden can barely pay his office rent, he can’t get a date, and he has the knack of making everyone around him miserable.

Storm Front is Jim Butcher’s first book, and despite being a bit melodramatic at times, I’ve been assured that the books that follow are more polished.

This is a fun book, and an easy read.

I’m now reading Fool Moon, book two of the series.

“One for the Money” movie trailer

Okay, Katherine Heigl wasn’t my choice to play klutzy bail bond agent Stephanie Plum.

I wanted Sandra Bullock.

But I will see this movie when it comes out, and give you all my review.

Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur?

Excellent choice.

My new fave Christmas song

My new favorite Christmas song is Christmas Lights by Coldplay.

I’ve been humming it to myself all day.

And I’m sure enjoying iTunes on my iPhone.
