viparita karani: DO try this at home

Photo credit: My photo of Yoga Journal article, basics: legs-up-the-wall pose, September 2010 issue, page 70.

viparita = inverted
karani= action

I just tried this pose, and I’m feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, still experiencing a bit of head rush (I got up too quickly, I think), but feelin’ kind of groovy (with a nod to Simon and Garfunkel).

During my work week, I push myself until, inevitably, exhaustion takes over and I just collapse in a heap.

Like last night.

I got home from work, ate dinner, exercised, then tried to watch a movie.

I couldn’t follow the first episode of ‘Pillars of the Earth’ on Netflix.

Then I tried to read.

I did finish this article in Yoga Journal, which was in my mailbox last evening (a wonderful birthday gift to myself was a subscription to YJ).

Anyhoo.

Sitting up was too big a chore for me, so I finally gave up, about 9:00 p.m., and crashed.

It took about two hours (and three cups of coffee) to wake up this morning.

Then I rearranged my studio apartment to gain some wall space for viparita karani.

The article cautions this pose may take a few tries to get right.

After about 15 minutes of rearranging and fiddling around, I realized that my body was as close to the picture as I was going to get today, so I just relaxed for about 10 minutes.

Wow.

Feels great!

Give it a try!

My birthday weekend

And I’m off Saturday, Sunday, and Monday!

woo-hoo!

You know you’re getting older when…

You get cremation offers in the mail.

Like every few weeks!

Ha!

Maid’s day

I won’t have a lot of time to play on the internet today–my maid is coming to clean house.

Oh wait.

That’s ME!

Right.

Work is joy, truly, when you can do it yourself!

LOL!

Have a good Sunday, everyone!

TGIF

This is birthday celebration weekend.

My granddaughter V is 9!

9?

When did that happen?

Lol!

And it’s going to be warm and sunny in Seattle!

I’m off to get ready for work.

Happy Friday, and have a great weekend.

Sunday with The Fab four minus one

I had a scheduled visit with three of my grandchildren this afternoon.

While I was at QFC this morning, stocking up on food, I saw my son and the three cutie patooties themselves.

They begged me, “can we come home with you now, Bunny, please?”

Well, look at those faces–could you say no?

So I have company today!

It’s fun!

balance

I’ve worked hard to balance my life in the last year.

What do I mean by this?

Until August 2009, I was the very definition of a couch potato.

I spent hours, every day, with my laptop perched on my lap, blogging and otherwise zoning out on my buttocks.

But no longer.

During the week, I come home from work, make dinner and take my meds, then rest for a bit before it’s time to exercise, which takes me about 40 minutes in the evening (I’ve added exercise into my day, by walking to and from my work from the commuter bus a few stops before I used to).

Then I bathe, and end up my day either reading or watching a little television before sleep overtakes me.

On the weekends, I add some long walks into my schedule, increase my indoor exercises if it’s raining hard, spend time with my family, and plan some recreational activities (movies, lunch out, shopping at Target).

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’ve missed blogging, but I will not be spending as much time blogging as I used to, because I just can’t sit still that long.

I have carefully built a life of my choosing, and I take time every day to express my thankfulness for this life, all the good and bad things that have happened to me, that have brought me to this point.

Balance.

My balance.

It’s wonderful to have at last discovered the joy that comes from just being alive, of being physically and mentally active, of being able to have a job that I like (most days), of being able to pay on my student loans (gulp), to hug my grandchildren and be close to my wonderful son.

Now I need to get off this flippin’ computer and go out and enjoy this day!

Happy Saturday!

Hot dang, it’s Friday!

It was a hair raising week, and I’m glad to have two days off!

I’m not bragging, but it’s a comfortable 75 degrees in Seattle.

So I’m sending thoughts of cool breezes and gentle rain showers to all of you suffering in the heat.

Happy weekend.
