“Potato friends”

27 09 2008

My grandson Luka, 5, is keeping two large baking potatoes in the refrigerator at his house.

They are his “potato friends.”

Luka added a small new red potato to his “potato friend” collection this weekend.

“They’re a family, Bunny Beth,” Luka told me with pride.

One of the baking potatoes is starting to look a little wrinkled, though.

I hope it does not start to turn black, or get sprouts all over it.

Luka will be heartbroken.

And yes, I had a very good time with my family last night and today.

I took the bus home today, and treated myself to breakfast along the way.

Then, this afternoon, I took a nice long nap, because my granddaughter V kept me up quite late last night. She’s okay, it’s just hard for V to let go of her day and give herself over to sleep.

Tonight, I’m going to watch “The Name of the Rose” thanks to a Netflix video.

More tomorrow.

Back in a few days

I’m spending a few days with the family–I’m so glad they are back in Seattle.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends!

It’s cold

24 09 2008

I’m sitting in my rocker/recliner, wearing my winter bathrobe.

Thanks to Rhapsody, George Winston is belting out ‘January Stars,’ and I’m enjoying a steaming cup of Stash Wild Raspberry herbal tea.

And I’ve got my heating pad turned up to high, because it’s a bad arthritis week for my back and knees.

Last night, I started watching the “Heroes” pre-show, and I was all fired up to watch the new episodes.

And I fell asleep!

I don’t have much to offer so far this week, not yet anyway.

Friday night I’m off to my son’s house to have a sleepover with the grandees, and I’m always excited about that prospect. My son and daughter-in-law are going out for a few hours, and I get to have fun with the little jaspers.

Anyway, I’m off to read, and comment on, your wonderful blogs.

A perfect day

14 09 2008

It’s a perfect weather day in Seattle–80 degrees, not a hint of rain, and a Saturday.

It just doesn’t get any better.

I was awake at 7:00 a.m. (eyeroll), brewed coffee, got my laundry done, and hosted 3 of my 6 grandchildren for 2 hours.

Their father, my son Jay (a.k.a. Davis to his children, don’t ask me why), went out for a few hours to sketch at  a nearby cafe.

My grandchildren polished off 18 mini pizza bagels, 6 1-ounce bags of Pirate booty, and a box of Annie’s White Cheddar macaroni and cheese, all washed down with a cup of chocolate milk each.

After they left, I cleaned the kitchen, then tried to take a nap but couldn’t get quieted down.

So I took a walk to the fruit and vegetable stand in my neighborhood.

You may be bored reading this, but I’m feeling just great about this fun, restful, and relaxing day off.

Now I’m enjoying a glass of beer (I celebrate with a glass or two every month or so), while my pot roast is cooking.

Fresh new potatoes, carrots, onions, and mushrooms.

Yum.

The best part of this pot roast dinner is it will be good tomorrow also, and possibly Monday.

It just does not get any better (I wrote that once, I know, but it’s worth repeating).

TTFN!

Long weekend–random thoughts and thanks

31 08 2008

Dang, it’s cold in Seattle this morning, but expected to warm up nicely.

It’s day 2 of a long weekend, and I’m warm and snug in my rocker recliner, listening to CNN and drinking coffee.

And I’m giving thanks this morning, because I can sit sround and relax after a hard week of work. I’m not in the process of evacuating my home and my city. As I write this, I’m listening to Ray Nagin give an update regarding the evacuation of New Orleans. Nagin is warning potential looters they will go directly to prison.

I’ve heard reports that some New Orleans citizens are taking along school records and other important papers with them as they leave, and won’t return to their homes if the storm is really bad again.

I spent yesterday taking care of my grandchildren so my son could get out for a few hours; my daughter-in-law Kim is at Telluride for the film festival, then she’s going to the Toronto film fest. I made the mistake of saying to my grandchildren that I am so happy that they will be in Seattle for Christmas this year, and how much I missed them last year.

How many days until Christmas? They all asked.

After we figured out that Christmas is in a few months, there was a flurry of paper, pens, and excitement as N, J, and V started their Christmas lists.

When I informed my son what three of his children were up to, his reaction was, let’s say, lukewarm. Your typical parental reaction to the economic realities of buying Christmas gifts.

That’s when I went home.

So my friends, take care today, and please take time out to be thankful.

I’m going to read today (Eclipse), watch The Winds of War thanks to Netflix, and check out all of your blogs.

a new use for underwear, and on being a party pooper

23 08 2008

THIS POST CONTAINS NO ADULT CONTENT

I finally had to clean my laptop monitor, and it got all streaked, which is almost as bad as being dirty.

So I looked up ways to safely clean my monitor, and learned that it’s best to use a cloth that’s 100% cotton.

Most of my clothes contain cotton, but aren’t 100%.

As I was searching around my apartment, I realized that I do have clothing that’s 100% cotton.

My underwear!

So I took a clean pair of underwear, moistened it with a bit of tap water, and now my laptop is shining clean.

Ha!

On a side note, I’ve not done a lot today, just stayed home to sleep and take Tylenol, as I’ve been running a low grade temperature.

My son and daughter-in-law are getting over a terrible flu bug, so I decided not to go to the party.

So I’m sure this has all been TMI for you, so I’m going to say TTFN.

Great (burp) birthday party

3 08 2008

Golly gee, having my family back in Seattle makes me very happy.

We consumed fettucine alfredo, fresh grilled salmon, and vegan cupcakes.

I see that face you are making, but they were super duper delish.

I got home about an hour ago and took a bubble bath with my new cucumber melon bubble bath.

And soon, I’m headed to bed (after I check out some blogs).

Another weekend bites the big one

28 07 2008

Jeeze Louise, I had a great weekend.

I tooled around Seattle in a Honda Civic rental car, spent time with the grand kids, ate some great food, and watched a really cute movie tonight (The Bucket List).

Oh yeah, I also slept in until 9:30 am this morning!

And I bought some new clothes for work!

I packed a lot into my weekend, and I feel raring to go tomorrow.

May you all have a wonderful day.

TTFN.

Family arrives tomorrow!

17 07 2008

My daughter-in-law, her mom, and my grandchildren get into Seattle later tomorrow night.

Their stuff arrived in Seattle, via freight shipping, early this evening.

Woot!

UPDATE: THEY GOT IN THIS EVENING, SAFE AND SOUND!

Expect sporadic blogging

10 07 2008

Summer in Seattle doesn’t last long, folks.

I hate math, but let’s do some anyway:

Warm sunny Seattle days  +

my desperate need for new work clothes+

my newfound joy regarding life+

my family returning to the Seattle area =

sporadic blogging on my part.

I’ll do my best, folks, but it just doesn’t get any better than this, at least not right now.
